Range Safety
Anybody wishing to attend one of our ranges or handle our equipment must complete a form for background checks. This form includes a Section 21 declaration - basically the applicant has not been sentenced and served more that three months. At present the rehabilitation of offenders act does not apply to Section 21 and all and every offence has to be declared - irrespective of time since offence. Even minor traffic offences should be reported; failure to do so count against you.
- Safety line must always be used when not shooting.
- When entering the range area let your presence be know to the Range Officer.
- Obey the Range Officer at all times - RO commands when it is safe to begin shooting, gives countdown to start of competitions, commands you to stop should there be any risk involved.
- Whilst carrying a rifle, carry it pointing upwards.
- Pistols must only be unboxed when instructed to do so and only then when on the firing point.
- Ear plugs are advised. Compulsory for under 16s.
- Safety glasses are advised.
- When loading, pistols and rifles must be pointing down-range.
- Our priority is range safety - if somebody needs assistance to other parts of the building they must have their own escorts.
- In your own interests declare health conditions.
- Wash your hands after shooting.
A safety and etiquette test to how knowledge and understanding will permit you to shoot without 1:1 supervision.
